Parents believe their kids' mobile phone use is "out of control". Enter OmegoMobile
omego_mobile_phone_for_kids.jpgParents are increasingly concerned about their children's use of mobile phones. Research published today suggests that over four in five British parents (81%) are worried about their children being contacted by strangers, of having their mobile phone stolen, or being a victim of cyber-bullying. That's despite 71% saying that the phone would be vital in the case of an emergency. Conversely, 58% of children would hate to have their mobile phone taken way. The research leads nicely to OmegoMobile, the mobile phone for kids which has been designed to address the concerns of parents.

Review: Proporta's Mobile Survival Kit
proportasurvival.jpg I have been stuck with a suddenly-dead mobile phone or iPod more times than I care to remember, and I'm sure there's plenty of others who've made the same mistake, thinking there's enough juice in their 'pod for a trip from Amersham to Holborn and back. Oh, the pleasant experience of being forced to listen to parents admonishing their pollywaffle-smeared kids on the tube. We've discovered the joys of Mobchargers before, those handy disposable single-use chargers for most mobiles under the sun, but as mentioned, they're single-use, plus only give you an extra four hours of stand-by time. Just not good enough unfortunately, when your tube line suffers from inevitable delays. Proporta's Mobile Survival Kit is the perfect, well, survival kit. Not only does it come with every mobile attachment available, it also includes an iPod adapter too. I've spent the past week carting it around in my handbag, deliberately letting the juice drain from my gadgets, and charged them up whilst on the go in London. Read below for my findings...

SingStar: the first essential PS3 game thanks to downloads and social networking

mysingstar.jpg

I'm so tone deaf, children have been known to run for the nearest high bridge when I give my karaoke rendition of 'Crazy In Love'. Tombstoning? It's all my fault. But that hasn't stopped me getting excited about the PS3 version of Sony's SingStar karaoke game.

Opinion: Philharmonic orchestras in Second Life? Come off it...
stu-col.jpgStuart Dredge writes... The biggest problem faced by classical music? The people who actually like it are all dying, and the only time The Kids are exposed to moving orchestral symphonies is if they hit the wrong button and accidentally tune into Double Clef FM in Grand Theft Auto III. How to attract new audiences? One method is to hire a wind machine, a piano and get Myleene Klass in for another album session. Another option is *shudder* G4. And the third method is to turn your entire orchestra into avatars and have them play a concert in Second Life.

Samsung creates patents for two new gaming mobile phones - whoops!
img alt="samsungmobilepatents.jpg" src="http://techdigest.tv/samsungmobilepatents.jpg" width="308" height="172" /> Why anyone would want to release a gaming mobile phone after the dismal failure Nokia's N-Gage went through, is beyond me. Some clever cookie at Samsung has obviously been in a coma the past five years, woken up, and come to the conclusion that what the world really needs is a gaming phone. From Samsung. Clever, right? They've filed two new US patents, with the first (above) described as a 'portable communication terminal for games'. Obviously that's some new slang that's down with the kids in the playgrounds across Britain as we speak. "Oi, Sheryl, where's my portable communication terminal? I need to ring Barry to see what the footy score is!"...

HarperCollins to make new book excerpts available on mobiles, including the iPhone!
harpercollins_browse_inside.gifLeading book publisher HarperCollins has announced a dedicated web site to allow mobile phone users to browse excerpts of more than a dozen new book releases. Despite the title looking like a vain attempt to cash in on the iPhone craze, the opening line of the press release actually states that "The publishing world is hooking up to the iPhone". Really. Though any mobile browser could theoretically access the site, it does seem as if the service has been specifically designed to match the look and feel of the iPhone. Users can view up to 10 pages of any book's first two chapters, and are able to shrink or enlarge the print size.

LG has gone mental and made a TV out of gold
lg-pdp-luxury%20gold.jpgAs if TVs weren't expensive enough already. The new LG home theatre system is plastered with 24 carat gold, and is the most needless, pointless and overpriced innovation in home cinema since Blu-ray and HD-DVD came along. The ludicrously OTT 71" set, which uses PDP technology to display its HD pictures...
