Canon  has unveiled a digital single lens reflex (D-SLR) camera. Among some of the features that the EOS 30D offers include a larger LCD screen, measuring 2.5 inches, 1.9 times larger than the EOS 20D. It also has the ability to store as many as 9,999 pictures.

“Through incorporating feedback from our EOS users with our strong heritage in imaging, we have developed a next generation digital SLR that will live up to the EOS reputation for superior performance at its price point,” said Canon’s senior director and general manager, Richard Yeow.

Equipped with a DIGIC II image processor (to enhance and speed up the image processing speed) and a CMOS image sensor (to produce pictures with less noise), the EOS 30D provides users with sharper and clearer pictures.

Features:

  • 8.2 MP CMOS sensor
  • 5fps, 30 JPEG image burst
  • 2.5" LCD
  • Picture Style image processing
  • Spot metering & 9-point AF
  • DIGIC II
  • Digital Photo Professional software
  • Magnesium alloy body
  • Compatible with all EF/EF-S lenses and EX Speedlite flashes
  • Connectivity

The good: Excellent low-light performance; fast and responsive; straightforward controls; nice balance of features for both experienced and rookie photographers.

The bad: Pop-up flash casts shadow with some lenses; viewfinder provides only 95 percent view; average battery life; 1.6X lens-conversion factor.

The bottom line: The 8-megapixel Canon EOS 30D should be on your short list for a semipro dSLR camera.
